I plan to do an article on just that issue and I believe I have found a solution for that for myself (which I'm sure others have already adopted) which sadly probably only applies mostly to Warhammer Fantasy. That is that only a few guys really need special attention. The rest are mostly covered by other models and probably don't need to be painted to such a high degree.
