Painting: Scythean (Finished)

As I said on my list WIP for this big beast all the white parts that got "dirty" have been retouched with white.  They are now ready to recieve the glory of Gryphonne Sepia!

I took a medium size brush and pretty much applied it generously to most parts that are "armor".  This pretty much wraps this guy up to table top quality.  For higher than table top I will be looking into bringing at least another highlight layer to the "armor" with a mix of Bone White and White and also bringing that blue another layer of highlighting.  However, this is good enough to play for me.  More to come...

Painting: Shredders (Finished)

My beloved Shredders!  These were done to tabletop quality.  The base work leaves a lot to be desired but at this stage they are ready for play!

I've had better days with the camera / lighting but really wanted to update on their status!  I really want to get a lot of playable pieces ready.  I hope I can keep up the progress.  I'm quite afraid of how I'll handle actual units of 6 or more since that is usually the demoralizing part.  More to come...

Modeling: Spell Martyrs (Finished)

I was able to finish these models very quickly.  No extra parts, just a guy, his base, glue done!  Let's cover the modeling basics real quick.

Flashing: Not much to be found in the flashing department.  Maybe 2 or 3 pieaces and mostly hanging off of the feet and base stand.

Mould Lines: Pretty much none.  There were a few "hair lines" around the legs and that was pretty much that.  Ready for table top!

A quick flock job is probably all I'll be doing for these guys.  I'm actually looking forward to figuring out how I'm going to paint these guys.  I mean, of course I'll be painting them to the mostly by the book scheme since that's just how I like them but I meant more on what techniques to use with the brush and paint.  More to come...

Painting: Seraph (Finished)

Here is my Seraph, finished to typical table top quality.  I did not do WIPs for this one but posting it just the same.  I believe I'll try to go back and do better highlighting and maybe even some basing rework but for now looks "ok" enough to me for playing.

I tried a couple of new things on here.  First finally gave a shot at some cork to create elevation.  I found it easy to work with but I did glue some small ballast flock on it and I'm not happy with that result so next time I try it I'll try to leave it as a smooth surface and paint it up as smooth slabs of rock.

I also tried some snow flock.  I think I'm going to try another technique next time where I mix the glue with some white paint and the flock itself so that it dries less translucent.

When I "revisit" this model to rework it a bit I think I'm going to try a couple of other things painting wise.  The membranous portions of the wings I believe I want to paint a different color, still not sure what color.  Also, the "gil" looking membranes on the neck of a lot of Legion beasts seems to need a color to pop out, I'll probably touch those up too.

I'll be trying to use the cork again of course.  Not sure I will be doing a WIP just on the cork but perhaps when I use it on another figure I'll try to cover it a bit more in detail.  More to come...

Painting: Typhon (Finished)

Finished Typhon yay! Only to table top quality (which I may or may not have mentioned before) which  it's what I've decided to do for now so I can get my stuff painted already! After priming it Skull White I washed it with blue Wonder Wash as mentioned in the WIP article.  The next step was to paint the base.  Painting the base (at least the way I do it since I mostly dry brush) sometimes messes up the other colors so I do that first.  I usually do the base Chaos Black > Graveyard Earth (Heavy Dry Brush) > Desert Yellow (Dry Brush) > Bone White (Light Dry Brush).  After the base paint, I touched up any portions of the model that got any of the base paint on them.

Next was the Icy Blue for the skin.  I do this in a combination of Dry Brushing and Over Brushing.  Basically just right to not get too much in the cracks of the muscles but not too little like dry brushing only so make sure there's some good definition.

Following the "Highlights" I touch up the parts that I need staying Skull White to get them ready for the Gryphon Sepia Wash (GW) then I wash them.

Next I do the gums with Dwarf Flesh > Wonder Wash Red to give them a "live" look.

To wrap things up I "clean" the edges of the base by painting them black.  From here I may or may not add snow and such to the base.  I have a couple of my beasts in queue to paint but after those any that I start I'll try to do a step by step with pictures so that my method is more clear, and after that I'll probably do an article or more on my madness method lol... more to come!
